"You fell in love with someone because of the tilt of his smile, or because he could make you laugh, or in this case, because he made you believe you were the only one who could save him."
—Jodi Picoult, Picture Perfect
Poe has a thing for damaged goods. It’s not her fault, broken boys just seem to end up stumbling into her life or falling asleep on her lap on a public park bench. She doesn’t actively seek this type out, she usually aims high; intellectual boys, ones who spend long hours in the library with coffee and stacks of books reading about lost civilizations and the flaws of mankind.
But she ends up with the broken ones and she tries to hard to fix them, to bandage their wounds and nurse them back to health. It’s rarely successful, the best she can hope for is some small improvements. A better attitude here or a broader understanding there.
In the case of this quote, I think of her relationship with Dean.
